Murder accused, cop shot injured in district courts

Despite huge security arrangements around the district courts, police on Saturday failed to arrest unknown assailants, who opened fire at their opponent, as a result of which a policeman and an accused were injured within the premises of district courts on Saturday.
The unidentified attackers targeted Rana Sarwar, who had been arrested in a murder case, opened fire, resulting in multiple bullet injuries to him as and Head Constable Muhammad Rafiq received bullet injuries. The culprits fled the scene in spite of huge security measures, creating fear and panic in the area. Sarwar had been produced in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Wajahat Hussain in a murder case registered with the Bara Kahu Police Station.
“After appearing before the court, unidentified people opened fire at Sarwar, injuring him and a head constable”, said a police official, adding that the injured were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Soon after the incident, police reached the spot and conducted a search in the district courts for the arrest of attackers, which proved a failure.
The incident took place in an area where the offices of top administration of capital, including senior superintendent of police (SSP), superintendents of police (SPs), chief commissioner, deputy commissioner and other senior officials of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, are located. Similar, attacks have been reported in the premises of district courts in the past as well but the officers concerned were ignoring the issue, an official said.
Margalla Police Station SHO Irshad said police had made no arrest after the incident, adding that the FIR would be registered after completing the legal formalities. He said amidst the ever increasing threat of terrorist attacks, an amount of Rs 32.673 million had been spent on erecting a security wall and installation of walkthrough gates around the offices of senior officials of police and ICT administration, but the responsible circles had failed to ensure thorough complete checking of visitors, which one of the main reason behind the armed attacks.
