Monsoon destruction: CS orders repair of govt buildings, roads

Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas has emphasised speedy renovation and repair of government buildings and roads damaged during the monsoon.
In a meeting held at the Sindh Secretariat on Saturday, the chief secretary advised the Works & Services Department secretary to compile an assessment report of the civil works, in consultation with all the departments concerned. The chief secretary was apprised that until the date of meeting, losses were assessed to the tune of Rs 16 billion and it was decided that repair work would be launched after fulfilling all the formalities in this regard.
The chief secretary asked the Rehabilitation secretary to submit the report of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)’s services rendered during the last year’s monsoon. The meeting reviewed the role and performance of all the stakeholders in connection with the relief and rescue operation and decided to get an up-to-date presentation prepared for ascertaining the real losses to facilitate proper funding arrangements.
Concluding the meeting, the chief secretary maintained that the Health secretary and the PDMA should communicate the progress to the media daily to avoid confusion and contradiction in certain press reports. Public Health Engineering Department Secretary Kaleem Makki informed that 94 reverse osmosis water plants at an estimated cost of Rs 2.2 billion are to be installed in the areas concerned, of which eight plants have already been installed.
