Judicial Magistrate Abid Islam on Saturday extended the physical remand of Muhammad Zaman, Saleem Akhtar, Abdullah, Iyaz Baig and Adnan Hussain until September 21, involved in theft of copper from a bogy owned by the Pakistan Railways (PR). The PR Police had arrested the accused and recovered Rs 1.8 million from them which they had got from selling the stolen copper.
According to details, on August 4, a bogy was sent from Khanewal to Lahore with 4,000 kilogrammes copper worth Rs 2.4 million in it. On August 12, the said bogy was stolen from the Lahore Railway Station, which was later found empty at Kharian on September 7. The railway police registered a case and arrested Kharian Station Manager Muhammad Zaman, goods booking clerk Adnan Hussain, Saleem Akhtar, Abdullah and Iyaz Baig involved in the scam.
On Saturday, the railway police presented the accused before the magistrate seeking extension in their physical remand for further investigation and recovery of the stolen copper. The magistrate, extending the remand, directed the railway police to complete the investigation by the next date of hearing.
