Chinese Consul General Zhang Jian called on Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House on Saturday and expressed sympathies over the loss of life and property in the province following heavy rains. “The Chinese people are with the Pakistani people in their times of happiness and sorrows. The Chinese government would extend their assistance to Pakistan in this time of disaster,” he said.
The chief minister told the consul general that Pakistan and China are two neighbouring countries having very cordial relations for a long time. He added that these relations were further strengthened during the tenure of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Premier Chon En Lai under the leadership of Mao Zedong. Shah informed the consul general that the recent heavy rains have disturbed life and destroyed the economy of the whole province.
He gave a few details of the losses to Jian and said that not only people and animals have died, but houses and roads have also been destroyed. The chief minister thanked the consul general for his country’s cooperation and assistance for rain/flood-affected people of the province and hoped that other countries and agencies would also come to their aid. On the occasion, the consul general presented a cheque of Rs 0.4 million contributed by the staff of Chinese consulate general to the chief minister.
