A local court accepted the bail application of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi on Saturday on a surety of Rs 100,000. The JSQM chief was arrested on Thursday on charges of possessing illegal weapons.
An additional sessions judge at the Malir courts ordered the release of Qureshi and his associate Badaruddin on a surety bond of Rs 100,000 each. A large number of JSQM supporters had gathered outside the Malir jail to welcome their leader. Talking to journalists after his release, the JSQM chairman said that he and his friends were arrested without any reason and Rangers were biased against him as his licensed weapons were snatched.
“The licensed arms are for my personal protection and should be returned immediately; or if anything happens to me or my friends, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, [Interior Minister] Rehman Malik and Rangers should be held responsible.” The nationalist leader said that he had no objections to action against criminals but the innocent should be spared.
