36 cases reported positive in Rawalpindi

Thirty-six dengue fever patients have been declared positive by the National Institute of Health (NIH). These people were admitted in the Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarter Hospital of Rawalpindi. According to the Health Department’s figures, a total of 412 suspected dengue fever cases have been admitted in the hospitals of the city.
Holy Family Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Javed Hayat told APP that 120 suspected patients had been brought the institute out of which 22 were declared as positive. The medical tests of 49 suspected patients were negative while 49 patients’ medical report was still awaited, he added.
To a question, Dr Javed Hayat informed that a total of 412 suspected patients were brought in the three teaching hospitals of the city out of which 36 patients were of dengue fever, adding that the reports of 70 of them were negative. He said the report of 152 patients had not been received yet, which would clear whether they were the victims of dengue fever or not.
Replying to another question, he said 92 suspected patients were being treated in three allied hospitals of the town while within last 24 hours 50 new suspected patients had been admitted in these hospitals. He said 31 dengue fever patients had so far been discharged after treatment from the allied hospitals of Rawalpindi.
In the District Headquarter Hospital, a total 84 suspected patients were brought but so far medical tests of only six patients proved positive while 10 patents lab reports were negative, Dr Shahid Iqbal Sheikh, the focal person on dengue cases at the hospital, said. The medical reports of 56 suspected patients were still awaited, he said, adding that 12 suspected patients were presently admitted in the hospital.
Dr Javed said last year, 900 suspected dengue fever patients were admitted in the hospital while more than 300 patients were confirmed to have dengue fever virus. According to Javed, the chance of dengue fever ends in mid of October. Meanwhile Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed told APP that a comprehensive anti-dengue campaign was being run to prevent the dengue virus in the division. He said prevention of the disease was a priority of the government and the city administration had been working day and night to avoid a possible outbreak of the infection.
All out efforts are being made to control dengue cases in Rawalpindi city, he said.“Dengue fever situation is under control in Rawalpindi region,” claimed the commissioner. He said maximum arrangements for the medical treatment of dengue fever patients were made in the hospitals.
