Shahbaz should quit if he can’t counter dengue, says Riaz

Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmed on Friday demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his failure to control the spread of dengue virus in Lahore. “Owing to Shahbaz’s irresponsible attitude, dozens of innocent citizens perished and he has no right to stay in power any more,” he said.
Riaz alleged that the government had so far taken no concrete steps to check the spread of the disease. “Had the government taken preventive measures against the dengue virus, the epidemic would not have affected so many people,” he said. To a question, the opposition leader said dengue was a serious threat and they were equally concerned on the situation arising out of the recent deaths.
He said the opposition wanted to play its role, but the chief minister did not allow it to. Riaz said the federal government had set up special centre for dengue patients at Shaikh Zayed hospital and was offering all possible help to the Punjab government.
