Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen Muhammad Zahir ul Islam called on Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Friday at the Chief Minister’s House and discussed the situation prevailing in the province following heavy rains. The corps commander informed the provincial chief executive that he visited the rain-affected areas and directed troops to help the affected people there.
He said that provincial and district administrations and jawans of the naval and air forces are also participating in relief efforts, particularly in the lower areas of the province including Badin, Tharparkar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta and Mirpurkhas. The chief minister said that the entire province had suffered due to heavy rains and there is disaster everywhere.
He said that he visits the rain-affected areas frequently and recently went to Badin, Naokot, Umerkot and Hyderabad, accompanied by the parliamentary committee constituted by the prime minister to monitor relief measures. Shah appreciated the efforts of the armed forces in helping the rain/flood-affected people at a time of crisis. Shah said that many friendly countries are also assisting the affected people while nongovernmental organizations are also working day and night for this purpose.
The corps commander and the chief minister decided that prompt medical and health cover should be provided in all affected areas so as to control any eventuality of an epidemic disease outbreak. They also decided to make coordinated efforts for the assistance of the rain-affected people.
