Rains, floods played havoc in Sindh: Firdous

Federal Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the rains and floods have played havoc in Sindh.
“Majority of the people, property and agriculture suffered heavily due to current monsoon rains,” she said while talking to media persons here at the Nawabshah Press Club.
She said that a focal office will soon be established to provide first hand information about the damages and the relief measures that have been taken so far by the provincial and federal government in the affected areas.
“An information cell will also be established at Benazirabad (Nawabshah) which will have representation from the press club and information department to disseminate information about the rain affected areas,” she added.
The minister said that the cell will exchange information with other ministries through internet.
“Rehabilitation of the rain affected persons is the biggest challenge to the government and it will continue its work till the resettlement of the displaced people,” she added.
While praising the role of Nawabshah Press Club, she said that on the directives of president and prime minister, Benazirabad will soon have a media university which will be inter-linked with the Media University of China.
“New technology, social media and mode of communication are all need of the hour,” she pointed out.
She said that the Chinese government has also extended all help and support as far as resources are concerned for the establishment of the media city.
In addition, she said that Pakistani youngsters will also be given scholarships and training in China and that initially two-members of Nawabshah Press Club will be sent to China under the first phase of the programme.
Moreover, the minister said that the computer literacy programme was also being launched in collaboration with the British government.
