JSQM chief among 60 arrested

The search operation in Karachi by Pakistan Rangers-Sindh and city police continued on Thursday as the law enforcement agencies arrested over 60 suspects, including Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Chairman Bashir Qureshi, and recovered huge cache of weapons. The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) cordoned off Gulshan-e-Hadeed and arrested over a dozen people with weapons. The law enforcers raided JSQM chief’s house in Phase-2 of Gulshan-e-Hadeed and arrested him with two companions.Moreover, during their search, the personnel of the LEAs recovered two Kalashnikovs and pistols from Qureshi’s house. After Qureshi’s arrest, incidents of aerial firing were reported in several Sindhi-dominated areas, whereas three motorcycles were set ablaze in Bin Qasim Town’s Memon Goth.
The JSQM leadership announced a three-day strike all across Sindh to protest the arrest of their chief. After the strike call, fear gripped several areas of the city, including Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Korangi, Landhi, Quaidabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Lyari and their surrounding areas. The LEAs also raided the house of Anti-Violent Crime Cell Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghulam Subhani and arrested his sons Sajjad and Shiraz as well as his nephew Badar with weapons. The law enforcers arrested brothers Naeem and Faheem, said to be affiliated with a political party, with weapons from Liaquatabad.
Moreover, three people were arrested from Liaquatabad No 7 with three TT pistols. Police released three people arrested during a search operation in Sharifabad due to unknown reasons. The LEAs also conducted search operations in Pak Colony, Purana Golimar, Sharifabad, Al Azam Square and other areas of the city and arrested over 25 people with weapons. Police raided the Brigade area and arrested two people allegedly involved in street crimes with TT pistols, snatched motorcycles and other valuables. The Sir Syed police arrested a drug peddler from their jurisdiction after a brief encounter and recovered a huge quantity of drugs, a rifle and four cartridges from his possession. The law enforcers also raided a house in Memon Goth and arrested Wahid Bakhsh alias Dada with two 7mm rifles, a TT pistol and Rs 200,000 cash.
‘TARGET KILLERS’: The Clifton police raided a house in their jurisdiction and arrested Muhammad Asif and Mubarak Ali with three 7mm rifles, four TT pistols and a repeater. The arrested men confessed to killing eight people, including two activists of the Punjabi Pakhtun Ittehad and two of the People’s Amn Committee. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested alleged target killer Miraj Muhammad alias Qasai, said to be affiliated with a political party, from Pak Colony after a brief encounter with a Kalashnikov. CID Senior Superintendent of Police Fayyaz Khan informed the media that the detainee was involved in the killings of several political activists.
