Six ‘killers’ among hundred more suspects rounded up

More than 100 suspects, including six alleged target killers, were rounded up by law enforcement agencies in search operations in different parts of the city on Wednesday. In the wee hours, Rangers launched a search operation at Al-Asif Square near Sohrab Goth. A heavy contingent of the paramilitary force, along with female security officials, participated in the house-to-house search.
The Rangers personnel used sensitive instruments during the raid and recovered six sophisticated weapons and heavy ammunition from the area, while arresting several persons. The law enforcers also cordoned off several residential buildings in the Sohrab Goth area. During the operation, more than 150 personnel were deployed along the entry- and exit-points of the area to avoid any untoward incident.
The security personnel took positions on the high-rise buildings of the area to provide cover to their colleagues. Over 100 suspects, including Afghan nationals and other foreigners, and huge cache of weapons and drugs were seized. The suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
In a joint search operation, police and Rangers personnel detained 15 suspects along with weapons in Machar Colony. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested two target killers from Orangi Town and Hyderi, North Nazimabad.
SSP Fayyaz Khan told the media that alleged target killers identified as Rehan and Rafique alias Ranger were nabbed in Orangi Town and Hyderi, respectively while two Kalashnikovs were recovered from their possession. “The killers have admitted murdering two Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) activists named Aamir Baloch and Waseem Baloch.”
Sources told Pakistan Today that another alleged target killer was arrested by police in a raid in the Super Highway area.
“Kashif alias Bush had links with a political party and confessed to have killed two political workers of a rival party in Sherpao Colony of the metropolis.
“The alleged killer was shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation,” they added.
The Gulshan-e-Maymar police also claimed arresting a target killer affiliated with a political party. An FIR (219/2011) was registered against the suspect named Shakir Raza Zaidi.
Meanwhile, the Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) arrested two persons allegedly involved in targeted killings and extortion.
DIGP Iftkihar Tarar told the media that the suspects identified as Shah Jahan and Hussain Baloch were wanted by the city police in several killings and extortion cases.
In another operation, the New Karachi police arrested three suspects identified as Irfan, Danish and Rasheed while recovering three pistols from them.
The Frere police also launched operations in different areas and claimed to have arrested seven persons, including two robbers, while recovering gold biscuits worth more than Rs 7 million from the possession of the bandits.
Police said that two Kalashnikovs, one rifle and five pistols were also recovered from the suspects.
