No laxity or negligence will be tolerated in the construction standards or use of resources in completing the projects in the region, Chairman National Highway Authority Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi said during an emergency visit to the under-construction Col Sher Khan Interchange on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-1), Peshawar Northern Bypass and Bridges adjacent to the Rashakai Interchange on Thursday.
NHA Member Construction Aurangzeb Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Region General Manager Fazal Nawab Khattak, and GM (M-1) Shahid Khan also accompanied the chairman. Gardezi also inspected the interchange connecting Grand Trunk Road, the Motorways and the Peshawar Northern Bypass on N5. Aurangzeb Khan, assisted by Khattak and Muhammad Shahid Khan, while briefing the chairman on the said projects, stated that construction work on the Rs 200 million Col Sher Khan Interchange was going on at full pace, whereas the Rashakai Interchange which was destroyed by a bomb blast last year was near completion and 35 percent work of the Peshawar Northern Bypass was also complete and its Package-I would be completed by February next year. Khan said with the completion of Peshawar Northern Bypass traffic pressure on Peshawar will be minimised and it will also provide easy access to Pak-Afghan border, Central Asian states and other parts of Afghanistan. Gardezi said the provision of funds for the projects would be smoothed out so that the construction work does not stop.
