For promotion of entrepreneurship among the youth and to make them more productive, the Skill Development Council (SDC) would have to evolve a new methodology as the job market was not expanding at required speed to absorb the new entrants. This was stated by LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik while speaking at first anniversary function of Skill Development Council Punjab here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Chairman Skill Development Council Rehmatullah Javed, LCCI former Senior vice President Tahir Javaid Malik also spoke on the occasion.
The LCCI President said that well trained manpower not only reduces the cost of production but also play a vital role in achieving the desired and required economic goals as it would lead to quality production, which ultimately will create global demand. In today’s world, the quality and types of skills, required internationally are fast changing and highly skilled workers are preferred, he added.
Shahzad Ali Malik said that the importance of skill development can be gauged from the fact that most of the Asian countries excelled in terms of economic development on the basis of their skilled and semi-skilled labour. The key element was that they kept their labour force abreast with latest technologies and imparted technical training in best possible ways.
“If we compare other under developed and developing countries with these emerging economies then we will hardly find a significant difference in their natural and financial resources. One factor that makes the real difference is their productive human resource which is now termed as Human Capital,” Malik said. This task requires all the stakeholders to jointly contribute their efforts so that desired results could be obtained. I hope that SDC has the potential to spearhead these efforts and bring greater fortunes to our homeland.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman Skill Development Council Rehmatullah Javed said that the council was in contact with international labour organizations like ILO to get short-term experts for conducting courses within the country so that unskilled workers could have better training facilities at an affordable cost.
He said that the skill development council would very soon sign MoUs with World class organisation in UK, Canada and Australia to introduce demand driven and out-of-box new trades so that the domestic industry could flourish and enhance their exports. Rehmatullah Javed said that the days are not very far when these trained people would join international labour force and earn much needed foreign exchange. Former LCCI Senior Vice President Tahir Javed Malik said that Skill Development Council still have to go a long way to provide boost to the manufacturing sector to make it the driving force for economic growth. He said that the business community must work hard for achieving high value addition, adopting leading technologies and venturing into new market. The task is enormous, but achievable, with the support of the government and manufacturing industry.
