The Khyber Union of Journalists has strongly condemned the assault on the Abbottabad-based reporter of Deewa Radio Ihsan Mohammad Khan who was brutally beaten and deprived of belongings including two mobile sets and some cash on Tuesday. Khyber Union of Journalists President Arshad Aziz Malik and General Secretary Yousaf Ali said attacks on journalists had increased across the country particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They said the assault on Ihsan was the fourth incident of journalists’ harassment in the province during the past four weeks. They said the government must take effective measures to protect journalists, adding that notice should be taken of the attack on Ihsan and the assailants must be arrested and awarded exemplary punishments. Deewa Radio coordinator Hamidullah said Khan was on his way home after covering the Abbottabad Commission’s visit when he was intercepted by unidentified men and severely tortured and deprived of valuables. Report of the incident has been registered in the Nawan Shehr police station.
