In a bid to check dengue epidemic, a plan is afoot to spray and fumigate all open plots in cantonment areas including Lahore Cantonment Board (LCB) and Walton Cantonment Board (WCB), Pakistan Today has learnt.
Sources revealed that notices have been issued to owners of open plots, directing them to start spraying and fogging their plots after clearing the plots of water and garbage. In the case of non-compliance of orders, heavy fines would be slapped, sources disclosed. “Open plots uncovered by any construction often accumulate water, which comes from the surrounding houses. Water stagnates in these plots after rain and these open plots become breeding factories for dengue mosquitoes,” a senior LCB official told Pakistan Today.
Meanwhile, Punjab Government Emergency Response Committee on Dengue Acting Chairman Yaseen Soahal held a review meeting at the cantonment board on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by cantonment boards and DHA officials. He ordered to ensure spay and fumigation at open plots. About educational institutions, Yaseen asked all officials to comply with the CM orders to close all educational institutions in their respective areas. “During 10-day crash holidays, officials should visit the schools and colleges to ensure spay and fogging,” he added.
The meeting said that committees had been constituted to supervise anti-dengue drive as per the chief minister’s orders. The government had also started monitoring private housing societies and hospitals to review spray and fumigation.
