Rainwater and overflowing sewage flooded almost all roads of Karachi after rains lashed the city on Monday night and Tuesday.
Despite the availability of pumping machines, the roads around the Sindh Secretariat were also submerged and water continued to accumulate there.
The areas of the Sindh High Court and the Sindh Assembly were also overwhelmed with sewage and rainwater.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Karachi District Coordination Officer Muhammad Hussain Syed had directed the officials concerned to ensure precautionary measures to cope with the rain situation, but in vain.
Moreover, the Karachi Electric Supply Company also failed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the citizens.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded 64.5mm rain in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 51mm at the Jinnah International Airport, 47.5mm on the University Road, and 31.5mm in Saddar Town.
The rainwater flooded the MA Jinnah Road, the II Chundrigar Road, the Shahrah-e-Faisal, and other major and minor roads that caused traffic gridlocks all across the city.
Electric supply remained suspended to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Civil Hospital Karachi that afflicted the patients.
According to reports received from the residents of the areas affected by the rains, rainwater flooded the houses in many parts of the metropolitan.
Besides the muezzins at various mosques, people started reciting the azan from their houses to seek God’s mercy and to pray for stopping the incessant rains. The PMD has forecasted more rains on Wednesday (today) in different localities of the metropolis.

  1. Ask Mustafa Kamal and his propaganda machine, who have been trumpeting wonders to the city of Karachi during his unbridled reign of Karachi, to come out and tell the nation what he did to billions of rupees which were generously handed over by MQM's mentor Gen Musharraf? I feel disgusted by a section of media who have been heaping praises on this spoiled brat for constructing few flyovers and underpasses. Would these backers of Mustafa Kamal make a little effort to go out of their safe places and see for themselves the condition of the city which is marooned by rain water.
Where is the infrastructure? Where are the storm drains? Go and visit Lyari slums and other areas. It will show you the 'wonders' Mustafa Kamal achieved. This man is a liar. An oblique reference of him as one of the mayors in the world in a journal published abroad was twisted and presented by the goebbels of MQM as an honour of being voted as best mayor. This was a white lie. The editor of the journal had himself come out to deny that report.

The Supreme Court should order an investigation into the accounts of both the CDGK and KWSB and let the nation know what happened to billions and billions of rupees handed over to the former mayor of Karachi.
