Expressing severe annoyance over the non-availability of treatment facilities for dengue patients and a general lack of cleanliness in a surprise visit to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, for the second time, suspended Medical Superintendent Dr Zaman Khan Niazi and ordered a disciplinary action against him.
The CM was going to Punjab House from Islamabad airport when he suddenly decided to visit the hospital where he enquired about the eight dengue patients admitted there. He asked them about the healthcare facilities being provided to them but the patients and their attendants complained to the CM that they were not being treated well in the hospital.
Sharif snubbed Dr Zaman Niazi by saying that the administrations’ behaviour does not reflect that emergency measures were being taken for dengue patients. He said that the neither sanitary condition was up to the mark nor there was any high alert. “What kind of a head are you?” Sharif asked Niazi.
He instructed that the state of art facilities be provided to the patient especially suffering from dengue and a separate counter be established for then. Sharif also inquired after the outdoor patients and asked the commissioner to submit a report regarding their complaints against the hospital staff.
Members National Assembly Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Malik Shakeel Awan and Rawalpindi commissioner accompanied the CM.
