Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmed has said that the opposition had decided to postpone its protest in the House following assurance by the provincial government of releasing development funds to their lawmakers by Thursday. He said that if the commitment was not fulfilled, the opposition would not let the treasury run the assembly proceedings.
Talking to reporters outside the Punjab Assembly on Monday, Riaz asked the Punjab chief minister to either eliminate dengue virus or quit office. “A chief executive who cannot kill mosquitoes cannot ensure good governance in the province,” he said. He said innocent citizens were dying of dengue fever while Shahbaz Sharif was engaged in photo sessions. His cabinet members were busy in minting money from managing underhand sale of medicines and sprays provided to them by the government to eliminate dengue mosquitoes, Riaz claimed.
