There are no ‘no-go areas’ in Karachi, and the police and Rangers’ search operations would continue across the city, said Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Saud Mirza in a press conference at the office of the South deputy inspector general on Monday.
Mirza said since August 25, the city police have arrested at least 1,400 suspects – dozens of whom are target killers and 21 extortionists – and recovered a huge quantity of illegal weapons from their possession.
Some 259 hand grenades, 476 pistols, 36 Kalashnikovs, 19 rifles and 18 repeaters were confiscated, he added.
He said the police have changed its policy against target killers, which has resulted in peace in the metropolitan.
Police and Rangers are carrying out targeted operations in all parts of the metropolis without discrimination, he added.
LARKANA SUSPECT: A suspect arrested by the law enforcers from Larkana district has admitted murdering at least seven people in Karachi, Rangers sources said.
Muhammad Shafique Pathan, a resident of Baldia Town, had escaped to Larkana after the Rangers launched a surgical operation in the area.
However, the law enforcement agencies raided his house in Larkana’s Sabzi Mandi area and arrested him.
On Monday, the detainee was shifted to Karachi, where he disclosed his affiliation with a political party during interrogation. Sources said the accused had murdered seven people in Karachi and was a staunch political activist.
‘EXTORTIONIST’ DETAINED: The security forces arrested more suspects during the ongoing search operation in different areas of the city.
The Khwaja Ajmair Nagri police arrested alleged extortionist Abdul Bangali and recovered weapons and extortion parchis (paper slips) from his possession.
Many more suspects were arrested with weapons from Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Abul Hassan Ispahani Road, Azizabad’s Bingoria Goth and Orangi Town.
‘WANTED CRIMINALS’: The Baldia Town police arrested two suspects – Shahjahan Baloch and Munir Baloch – and recovered two TT pistols from their possession.
The detention was carried out on the intelligence reports, according to which the accused were wanted by the police in five murder cases.
