Fresh army troops have been deployed along with necessary equipment for rescue efforts in southern Sindh (Laarr, Thar and Naaro) while the army personnel already there for the last one month have further geared up efforts. According to an ISPR press release issued on Monday, the army troops are rescuing the marooned populace in interior Sindh and providing medical care at various camps.
The operation is being conducted through boats, vehicles and helicopters.
Corps Commander Lieutenant General Muhammad Zahir Ul Islam visited the rain/flood -affected areas in a hectic day-long tour on Monday during which he visited Khoski, Pangrio and Shadi Taj areas of Badin district. He monitored the intense rescue operation undertaken by the troops. He also inspected the marooned areas along Left Bank Outfall Drain on a boat and many other affected areas by road from Hyderabad to Tando Mohammad Khan, Nindo Shahr, Khoski and Pangrio
.He was accompanied by General Officer Commanding Major General Anwar Ali Hyder, who briefed him on the ongoing rescue operation in detail. The corps commander also visited various medical camps and inquired about the pattern of illnesses prevalent among the rain/flood survivors.
Talking to the troops, the corps commander lauded their tireless efforts and devotion to duty. He urged them to put in their best in confronting this daunting national cause.
The Pakistan Army has rescued more than 100,000 marooned people along with their cattle in various inundated areas.
More than 1,000 families have been provided with food packages from the army’s own resources and troops’ contribution. Over 40,000 patients have been treated.
