GCU holds inter-varsity science exhibition

The Government College University (GCU), Lahore Chemistry Department on Monday held an Inter-Universities Science Poster Exhibition in collaboration with the Ravians Forensic Society and international organisation Mendeley to highlight the quality research being carried out in Pakistan in various fields of chemistry.
GCU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Khaliqur Rehman opened the exhibition displaying more than 95 researches of international standards on various topics related to metal-based drug development, DNA analysis, forensic explosive analysis, pesticides, nano-materials, bioprocess, oxidative stress studies, pharmaceutical analysis, bio-diesel production and anti-microbial actives. Students from all over the country, including the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Islamabad and Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad took part in the exhibition and presented their research work.
Speaking on the occasion, Khaliq said that such events should be regularly held in all science departments, as they did not only provide students a platform to exhibit their research work. Muhammad Arsalan from the Federal Urdu University, Islamabad Department of Applied Physics got the first prize for his research on “Tunability of Physical Properties of ZnCuCe films with Copper Concentration.” Kennith Nazir from GCU got the second prize for his research on “Acrachne Racemosa: A potent source for natural antioxidants.” Maymoona Mehbooob bagged the third position for her research presentation on “Fabrication, Characterization and Application of Aluminium Alloy.”
