Former president and All-Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief Pervez Musharraf on Sunday urged Pakistanis, particularly the youth, to remain united against all internal and external threats.
Addressing an APML Youth Convention in Jafaria Colony, Musharraf said as the country had been facing severe challenges, the three main pillars of the state, the judiciary, the legislation and the executive, had gotten into a struggle to increase their respective influence. “The situation in Karachi has been very disturbing and killing of innocent people on the basis of ethnic differences is deplorable,” Musharraf said, adding that the political status quo should be ended.
He said the people should free themselves of the hierarchical politics of the PPP and the PML-N to steer the country out of the ongoing crises, adding that a third political force should be entrusted to lead the country. He said deprivation in south Punjab had coerced the people to demand for a new province as the Punjab government had not fulfilled any promise made with the people of south Punjab, adding that the PML-N’s provincial government had liquidated south Punjab’s resources to make roads in Jaati Umrah.
About the performance of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the APML chief said mismanagement in every department of the province had exposed the tall claims of the ‘Khadim-e-Alla’, adding that the chief minister had assumed the responsibilities of 14 different ministries, including Health that showed how he carried out his responsibilities, with the outbreak of dengue.
He said he was determined to return to Pakistan by March 2012, even if he was arrested. “Let them arrest me… I’ll [still] go back,” he told the BBC.
