Jahangir Akhtar launches Anna Hazare-style protest

A social activist Jahangir Akhtar, generally known as Pakistani Anna Hazare in the capital city, kicked off on Monday his “hunger strike until death” against corruption and huge bigotry allocations for national defence. On the first day of his strike, Jahangir succeeded to muster the support of several human rights activists, social activists and political leaders. He established his protest camp outside the Super Market and said he would stay there until the acceptance of his demands.
Speaking on the occasion, Jahangir said that he heard about Anna Hazare’s protest but was not inspired by him. “I decided first to stage the same protest against corruption but he postponed his strike due to the Ramadan. “My struggle is against Pakistan’s security mindset that has a long history, spanning over decades,” he added. He said that any accident or military escalation might take a massive toll on human lives around the cantonments.
“Sky-rocketing inflation, swelling foreign loans and massive defence expenditures looked to me symptoms of a vulnerable Pakistan. So I announced an abrupt, emotional decision to stage a hunger strike from July 21 which I had to alter due to Ramadan” he added.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on the occasion paid tribute to Jahangir, saying that he took the much-needed step for the welfare of the country. He said his party would support Jahangir’s demands.
Farzana Bari, human right activists, on the occasion said that the public should support Jahangir Akhtar.
Senator Hasil Bizenjo also vowed to present bills introduced by Jahangir Akhtar in the parliament. He said that more millions of people had to struggle for food because of abject poverty.

This self realisation of notion of honesty in public life would soon have a cascading effect both in Pakistan & India as well. Changes start on a very small scale, but are adopted by others soon, which usher a transformation in the style of functioning at various levels. Moreover change is the law of nature and no one can ignore it.” Pakistan, now though separated, has deep tradition and cultural links with nation and one must not forget the fact that we were one civilisation, the oldest on earth.

  15. I am an Indian but I support the move of Shri Jahangir Akhtar taken for the betterment of his country. I hope the Pakistani people also understand the historic importance of steps taken by him. Let’s pray to god for his success in the mission. Pakistani people and media must support him at this juncture and his credibility should not be allowed to spoil at any cost.

Only then can his movement succeed.People of Pakistan must come out in huge numbers to support him. Its nation's cause after all. Without citizen's support no agitation can succeed. I’m an INDIAN..But i support this caose,,.we should kept our prbm behind,,and lets do something for progress our people’s becaouse common people are struggling due our govt bad policy..lots of people are not getting food..we should change our mind set,and invest on our people,instead of army..

Raja sahib and people of Pakistan, please demand repatriation of Pakistanis black money stashed in Swiss Banks which according to Wikileaks is in excess of $200 billion. Get that money back and save Pakistan's people of inflation and every month rises in electricity, gas and petroleum.
