A horrific smash between a bus and an overloaded minibus killed 19 people in Indonesia’s east Java province on Monday with police saying they suspected the drivers were speeding.
Mojokerto police chief Prasetijo Utomo said both drivers were killed in the accident, which occurred in Mojokerto district at 03:30 am (2030 GMT).
“The majority of the victims, 17 of them, were inside the minibus. One of the victims is a seven-year-old girl,” Utomo said.
“We suspect the bus and the minivan were speeding. And the minivan was over capacity, it should have seated 10 people.”
Indonesia has a poor road safety record with drivers frequently flouting the law.
