Teachers need to sport a positive attitude to stall the alarming drop-out rate and encourage student enrollment in schools so as to improve the literacy rate of the province. These views were presented by various educationists at a ceremony held in connection with the World Literacy Day at Government Higher Secondary School No One, Peshawar. High-ups of the education department, teachers and students from various schools attended the ceremony.
Speakers on the occasion shed light on the importance of education. The speakers said receiving an education was the basic right of every child and called for steps to safeguard this right. Peshawar City Circle ADO Sakhawat Shah asked teachers to sport a pleasant demeanour and create an environment conducive to learning in public sector schools to ensure maximum enrollment.
Similarly, ADO Sajjad Rasheed highlighted the importance of extra-curricular activities. He said such activities were indispensable for the character building of students. Earlier, a walk, starting from the EDO office and culminating at Peshawar Government Higher Secondary School, was arranged to observe the day. The participants carried banners and placards inscribed with pro-literacy slogans. Meanwhile, a walk to observe the occasion was also arranged by the Government Secondary School Totakan, District Malakand.
The school Principal Muhammad Mukhtiar led the walk. On this occasion beside a large number of students, teaching staff and parents, a contingent of scouts also participated.
