Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said that there was no need for a global appeal by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for full support and cooperation in tackling the situation created by devastating rains in Sindh.
Speaking with local media at the Magsi House in Hyderabad, he asked the government that the flood-affected areas should be immediately declared as calamity-hit areas. He also said that the flood affected persons must get the relief, but there was still no need to appeal for a global support.
Nawaz said that he has no personal agenda, and all political parties should sit together on the current situation in the country. “This is Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan, but Quaid’s dreams are not coming true. The current situation in Pakistan might be hurting the Quaid’s soul,” he said with the reference of the father of the nation.
Talking to journalists at the Circuit House, Nawaz said he had requested Prime Minister Gilani to pay Rs100,000 to each flood-hit family instead of Rs25,000 which he said was not sufficient. “We are going through financial crisis but the situation is not so poor to bow down before international community to get aid for resolving internal issues,” he told a questioner.
“We have ample resources. We don’t need any foreign aid. If we can become an atomic power than what else we can’t do,” he said. Nawaz regretted that the government has not waived off loans of small farmers in flooded areas. He also called for delivery of financial help to farmers for the next harvesting season.
