Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Zahir Ali Shah on Saturday inaugurated the Khyber Institute of Child Health, aimed at providing research, diagnostic and training facilities for advanced diagnostic services to patients at minimal costs.
The US Consulate General in Peshawar said Rs 86 million was funded by the Americans through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for this diagnostic laboratory. “Public hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa treat a large number of children,” said Shah. “We have not been able to properly diagnose Thalassemia and serious contagious diseases like TB and AIDS as the technology is too expensive. We appreciate the US support in enabling us to provide advanced diagnostics to the poor at nominal costs,” he added.
