Sindh Culture Minister and Thatta Relief Monitoring Committee Chairperson Sassui Palijo claimed on Saturday that she has not been missing from her rain-hit constituency Thatta and regularly visits the affected areas.
While visiting the rain-devastated areas of Thatta district, she said that a section of the press has wrongly accused her and the Pakistan People’s Party government of not paying attention to the woes of the rain-affected people.
“My opponents are trying to do politics on this issue but they need to keep in mind that I am very much present in my district [Thatta] during the recent rains and have been visiting affected areas like Jhoke Sharif, Mirpur Bathoro, Bachal Gugo, Jati Chowk, Karo Goonghro etc,” she said.
“I have also been conducting meetings on a daily basis in Makli to monitor relief operations and boost relief activities at the government level,” she added.
She said Sindh is facing a very critical situation at the moment but the PPP government, which holds the mandate of the people, will not leave them alone in this difficult time.
“Some opponents of the PPP are propagating against me to gain personal benefits but these rivals will not be allowed to play with the sentiments of poor people to shine their dirty politics,” she said.
“The people of Thatta are well aware that who was practically there for them during last year’s devastating floods when a huge area was inundated after a breach in flood protective bund in Kot Aalmu.”
Palijo said that so far, the province has received 180 percent more rain during this monsoon season than usual and the Left Bank Outfall Drain has caused devastation in the district by inundating many villages and rendering hundreds shelter-less.
“The government is making all efforts to provide relief to the rain-affected people and these activities will continue up till the rehabilitation of last affected person,” she said.
Palijo visited Mirpur Bathoro and directed officials of the government agencies concerned to ensure that water is drained from the inundated villages and no person is left without food, potable water and medicines at relief camps.
She also visited Bachal Gugo, Laiqpur and Jhoke Sharif union council. Later, she presided over a meeting at her residence in Makli in which District Officer Revenue Agha Shah Nawaz Babar told the minister that 5,000 tents being supplied from Lahore would reach Thatta in a couple of days.
