Punjab Governor Latif Khosa on Saturday asked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to resign if he cannot control the dengue mosquito.
He was speaking at a ceremony held at Sheikh Zayed Hospital to commemorate the success of the first cadaver liver transplant, which was carried out there last month. Criticising the CM for his statement that mosquitoes were stronger than his government, the governor said that the attitude of the Punjab government was of adding salt to injuries of the public.
According to the 18th Constitutional Amendment, it was responsibility of the provincial governments to provide health facilities to the people so the Punjab government should focus its energies on eradicating the menace of dengue instead of making such statements, he added. A helpline for complaints regarding medical facilities for dengue patients has been setup at the Governor’s House and could be reached by dialing 04299200081 from Saturday, Khosa said.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Human Rights committees were also tasked to look after sanitation issues in their respective areas that cause breeding of dengue mosquitoes, he said. Khosa accused the Punjab government of using delaying tactics for purchase of insecticides and said that the presently used chemicals were useless according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Replying to a question regarding the Punjab Cabinet’s proposal to cut down the governor’s quota of two percent in housing schemes, Khosa said that his constitutional rights could not be snatched by the cabinet’s decisions. Criticising the Punjab government, he said it was a parasite government, which was running with help of the PPP.
