After a long time, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab held a “Zardari Khapey” rally on Friday to express solidarity with President Asif Ali Zardari on completion of three years of his presidency. A large number of PPP workers, members of the Punjab Assembly and PPP Lahore Wing office bearers participated in the rally brought out from the Governor’s House to Punjab Assembly.
PPP Lahore Wing President Samina Khalid Ghurki, Women Wing President Faiza Malik, opposition leader Raja Riaz, senior PPP leader Samiullah Khan, Dr Tasneem and Shahista Solangi were also present. The participants carried banners inscribed with slogans in favour of President Zardari. On the occasion, PPP workers presented a tribute to President Zardari on completing three years of presidency with a number of achievements to his credit including the18th Constitutional Amendment, 7th NFC Award and political and development packages for Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and the tribal areas.
The PPP leadership said Zardari emerged as the first president in the country’s history to strengthen parliament by curtailing his powers through the 18th Amendment. The president took over the government when the state of the economy and peace was dismal. All these achievements reflected the president’s desire to take the country forward with a spirit of participation, consultation and equal opportunity in the formulation of government policies.
