Norwegian Church Aid to help rain-hit people

A delegation of Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) – an agency working on humanitarian and development concerns in Pakistan – visited camps and spontaneous settlements in district Mirpurkhas and Badin.
According to a statement issued on Friday, the delegation included senior country management of the NCA – its country representative Petter Eide, Program Coordinator James John and Muhammad Naeem WASH Officer. The NCA team was facilitated by RDF – a Sindh based civil society organisation. A senior management team of the RDF accompanied the NCA delegation on the visit. The RDF has already been partnering with NCA in early recovery and rehabilitation of 2010 flood-affected communities in Dadu.
The NCA delegates visited Makhan Samoon, Doulat Leghari, Digri, Tando Jan Mohammad and Jhudo areas in Mirpurkhas district and Tando Bagho, Badin and Golarchi in Badin district. They interacted with people settled in government camps, spontaneous sites and in villages in both the districts. On the occasion Petter Eide said that the rains have devastated vulnerable groups including minority communities, old people, women and children.
He was also concerned at the pathetic conditions in which displaced people were living in one of the camps he visited. He said that rain/flood survivors are in need of immediate food assistance. James John said that the NCA, being a responsible humanitarian and development organisation, is committed to provide relief services to the survivors in Sindh. Eide expressed the commitment of his organisation to provide food and WASH support amounting to Rs 30 million.
