White Lies

We hear that Hamza Sharif’s Dunga Gali summer house is the new Raiwind of Sharif family activity. Apparently, there are so many Mian Sahibs coming in and out of the elaborate summer house with sirens signalling the arrival and departure of their motorcades that neighbours get rather confused. Was it the Bara Mian arriving or the CM Mian departing or is it Mian Hamza coming and going. In fact, all are regular visitors to the house sometimes coming as often as once a week.

Residents love to crib about the invasion of security personnel but every shop and restaurant in the Dunga Gali square boasts of having the honour of being “By appointment to the Sharifs.” A 1122 ambulance permanently parked in front of the Hamza summer house has actually saved the life of a local chowkidaar. A few residents have also complained to Mian Nawaz Sharif about Hamza’s tree cutting activity and got him to tell off his nephew.

But politicians will be politicians even when they appear to be on a summer break. We hear that several young men from the political dynasties of KP who have houses in the neighbourhood touched base with the young Sharif this summer. Proof that politics of dynasties will endure.

Rumour has it that all is not wine and roses when two high profile Pakistani ‘friends’ meet in a foreign locale. Recently, former President Gen Musharraf and his protégé former PM Shaukat Aziz met yet again at the London residence of our socialite journalist P J Mir. General Mush was enjoying the food, drinks and music and so he should. He was sporting enough to a do a little jig, letting his hair down in the company of friends. At this point, it was noted that Shaukat was fiddling with his mobile phone and in the age of citizen journalism this can get people a little jittery. Sure enough another guest Lord Jim jumped up and took the phone into custody. Shaukat Aziz may not have looked too happy but we hear that he is regularly reminded about his shortage of loyalty to the general.

Our mole tells us that two months earlier the two met in Dubai where Musharraf actually reprimanded Shaukat for not defending the general and his policies. The former PM was heard hitting back with “But you did not consult me when you took some major decisions.” When asked to be specific, he replied “For instance, the killing of Akbar Bugti.”

  1. This is absolutely ridiculous that the the two former leaders would sit and start hurling insults at each other, they both are gentlemen, forget their political follies or achievements, their character does not permit them to fall this low, whoever this mole is ought to be sent to the same hole he came out from
