In a federal cabinet meeting on Thursday, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar snubbed Interior Minister Rehman Malik, saying that his cabinet colleagues were “fed up” with his long, useless and boring briefings on the state of law and order in Karachi. Malik had told Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani that he wanted to give a briefing on the state of law and order in Karachi when he was interrupted by Mukhtar, a source who did not wish to be named, said.
“Malik was interrupted by Mukhtar, who told the prime minister that the cabinet ministers were fed up with the interior minister’s useless briefings,” said the source, adding that Malik assured Mukhtar that he would keep the briefing short and precise. “Malik also told the prime minister that he would need only 45 minutes to complete his briefing. But before the prime minister could allow the interior minister, the defence minister intervened again, saying in a a lighter vein that the minister will not be able to limit his briefing and the prolonged briefing will affect the prime minister’s schedule,” said the source.
“However, Malik finished his briefing which carried no concrete substance in one and a half hour as all the information had already been published or aired by the electronic and print media. The minister only shared what we already knew,” the source said.
