Relatives of Syed Zahid Hussain, who has been sentenced to death by the Chinese Supreme Court, are seeking help from China’s ambassador to Pakistan and the Pakistan government to help get him released. Speaking at a press ews conference, Hussain’s sister Tasneem Fatima, flanked by their parents and other relatives, said Hussain’s business partners had implicated him in the false case of drug smuggling in 2008, on which the Chinese police arrested him and now the Chinese Supreme Court had decided to hang him on September 21.
She said her brother was innocent and all the allegations against him were not true. “We have sent many applications to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari to make some efforts on humanitarian basis for the release of [Hussain] but no one has paid heed to our appeals,” she said. She said further that they had also contacted Ansar Barni and he had assured them of every possible help. “Every passing night is death to the parents of Zahid,” she said, adding that the Pakistani government should take every measure Hussain’s release.
