The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has decided to relocate around 480 families living in “most dangerous” buildings in Narainpura. In the first phase, at least 63 families residing in – Meghji Bhagwanji building – among “most dangerous” declared by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) – would be shifted to nearby locations. The residents of the other building would be relocated in the second phase. The expenses of the relocation would be incurred by the city administration, sources told Pakistan Today. The decision was made recently by the city’s district coordination officer (DCO), Mohammad Hussain Syed. The Works and Services Department has been instructed to arrange a suitable location for the resettlement of the residents of these dangerous buildings.
The DCO visited the dilapidated buildings on Wednesday and had a detailed discussion with the residents. He assured them that the government would take immediate measures for their relocation. The SBCA had declared these structures dangerous due to their dilapidated condition and the inhabitants of such buildings were already issued an evacuation notice. The DCO also directed the Works and Services Department to take necessary measures for solution of the buildings problem on a permanent basis.
