Top South Korean golfer JiYai Shin will miss scheduled LPGA tours in the United States and Ireland this month due to a back injury, her agent said Wednesday. Shin, 23, was hospitalised in Seoul on Monday with severe back pain and cancelled all her scheduled competitions for the rest of September, SEMA Sports Marketing said in a statement. “She is suffering from pain in the back and the right big toe… she has to be treated for three weeks,” the statement quoted her doctor as saying. Shin, currently the world number five in women’s golf, had been scheduled to compete in the Navistar LPGA Classic in Alabama from September 15-18 and the Solheim Cup in Ireland from September 23-25. “Shin will miss these events… we will decide whether or not to cancel other tournaments in the future depending on her condition by the end of the week,” a SEMA spokesman told AFP. Shin said in the statement she had been suffering the problem since playing in the Canadian Women’s Open in August.
