Genuine democracy

Democracy is the least defective political system discovered by man in which people elect their government and lawmakers, empower them to exercise legitimate power on their behalf, and formulate policies for people’s welfare. Democracy is a system that works with good governance only. If the system and its good order fall apart, chaos takes over its democratic institutions and processes, leaving it dysfunctional. This will most likely happen if the system managers do nothing to meet the people’s needs and use their offices mainly to misappropriate the nation’s resources.

The government’s lavish spending, its inability to restore law and order, its failure to deal with acute shortage of electricity, gas and hyper inflation have pushed the people – yearning for genuine democracy in Pakistan – to a desire to see a change of system not just face.

This is a desire to have a system where the rich and powerful, politicians, generals and intelligence agencies are held accountable before the law. Where state bureaucracy is made responsive to the common man, where the rulers are not for self-glorification or at best, work for the benefit of friends and officials who in turn help them prolong their stay in power.

The present chaos, corruption, mismanagement and violence cannot be allowed for a long time as it will then hurt the very roots of the country.
