Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) Leader Moonis Elahi said on Thursday that the Punjab government was to be held responsible for the dengue outbreak in the province and especially in Lahore. He said Shahbaz Sharif was personally responsible for the deaths caused by dengue in the province. He accused the Punjab chief minister of being too occupied with self-praise and projection and for not doing anything concrete to eradicate the dengue menace. He said that historians would remember the self-proclaimed Khadim-e-Ala as a useless chief minister who could not pay heed to people’s issues such as poverty, unemployment, crime or dengue. He said that the chief minister should work towards providing dengue patients with platelets and special treatment rather than wasting time. Elahi said that Shahbaz Sharif had billions to spend on the Jaati Umra expressway, Sasti Roti scheme, the Ashyana scheme and the yellow cab scheme but no money for dengue treatment. He also said that Shahbaz Sharif had not bothered to appoint a full time provincial health minister since 2008 and that the dengue endemic of the previous year should have been enough of a warning for the government to not treat the matter with negligence. His party would unveil the real causes behind the dengue outbreak in the coming session of the Punjab Assembly, he added.

  3. On the 17th of March, 2011, Moonis Elahi voluntarily courted arrest in connection with the politically motivated NICL case. He is bravely fighting the false corruption charges brought up against him in the said case and he believes that truth will ultimately prevail. In a recent development the eight prosecution witnesses have also denied Moonis Elahi’s association with any of the allegations.

The NICL case Investigation Officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on being questioned by the court has also categorically stated that ‘no evidence against Moonis Elahi being privy anywhere in the NICL case surfaced during the investigation’.

  4. All the witnesses in NICL case went back on their statements against Moonis Elahi, Geo News reported Wednesday, May 25, 2011
