Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday said the PPP-PML-Q alliance would finalise the names of its joint candidates for the next general elections after two weeks.
“We will finalise our seat adjustment formula after two weeks. The Zulfiqar Mirza episode delayed the meeting between the two parties for the purpose, otherwise the names would have been finalised by now,” he said in an exclusive talk with Pakistan Today.
He said both parties had identified as many as 65 National Assembly constituencies in Punjab where they would face no trouble in fielding joint candidates.
“In other constituencies, the two parties will reach a consensus after going through inter-party consultations,” Shujaat said.
The PML-Q president clarified that it had not been agreed between the PPP and the PML-Q leadership that both parties would not field their candidates against their sitting MNAs in the next general elections.
“In a general understanding, both parties will try to not field candidates against sitting PPP and PML-Q MNAs but the final decisions in this regard will be taken shortly,” he said.
