The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday approved an increase of Rs. 2.4 per unit price of electricity.
According to NEPRA sources, the hike was approved under monthly fuel adjustment. The tariffs raise will be applicable to all the consumers and it will be included in the bills of next month. However, the hike would not applicable on KESC consumers.
The application for permission of the increase was received from the nine electricity distribution companies through the Central Power Purchasing Agency and the application hearing was headed by the NEPRA chairman.
According to sources, there was an increase in the prices of furnace oil in the international markets and 40 per cent of the electricity produced uses furnace oil.
