Zardari responsible for 7,000 deaths in Karachi during last 3 years: PML-N

Holding President Asif Ali Zardari responsible for the death of 7,000 innocent citizens in Karachi during the last three-and-a-half years, PML-N central leader Siddiqul Farooq on Tuesday appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to make Zulfiqar Mirza’s press conference of August 28 about the integrity of Pakistan and the law and order in Karachi a part of the hearing of the suo motu notice.
Addressing a press conference, Farooq said former Sindh home minister’s press conference was like an affidavit on the role of the federal and provincial governments and political parties as far as law and order situation in Karachi and integrity of the country was concerned.
He said the Supreme Court should also make the 1994 petition No 46/1994 filed by the MQM against Benazir Bhutto’s federal government, the reply of the federation and the stance taken by Sindh democrats group in the court part of the case before giving its verdict. Farooq said the entire nation was perturbed over the statement of the Sindh inspector general police before the full bench of the Supreme Court and the letter written to the British prime minister by Altaf Hussain against the ISI.
To a question, the PML-N leader said inviting foreign intervention against the armed forces and security institutions came under Article 6 of the constitution, adding that the current situation had provided an opportunity to the MQM to get a verdict from the Supreme Court about allegations levelled against it since its establishment in March 1984.
To another question, he held President Zardari responsible for the killing of 7,000 innocent Pakistanis in Karachi during the last three-and-a-half years. He said “the murderous policy of reconciliation” and “taking everybody along” had been exposed.
Farooq said the PPP had laid the foundation of sectarian bias in Sindh in 1973.
On the role of the PML-N, he said though the federal government, power and resources were not in the hands of Nawaz Sharif, the nation was still looking towards him to get it out of the current difficulties.
He assured the people that the PML-N would not disappoint the nation and was only waiting for the verdict of the Supreme Court on the protection of the life and property of the people, law and order in Karachi and the integrity of the country.
To yet another question, he said the PML-N considered the armed forces, the ISI and other security institutions necessary for the country.
