YDA demands govt bar admissions to UHS-banned colleges

The three private medical colleges in Lahore which have been declared illegal by the University of Health Sciences should be stopped from further admissions in MBBS and BDS, Young Doctors Association (YDA) demanded on Tuesday. According to an act passed by the Punjab Assembly, no medical college in the province can have an affiliation to any other university except UHS, so that a standard and uniform system of medical education could be implemented in the province and quality doctors could be produced.
The three private medical colleges in Lahore are charging Rs 0.65 million from their students in sheer violation of the laid down rules of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), according to which no college can charge more than Rs 0.5 million from its graduates and is bound to have a complete faculty, a 500-bed hospital; out of which 250 beds should be reserved for free treatment to public.
Pakistan YDA office bearers Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Talha Sherwani, Dr Ghulam Qasim, Dr Khuda Bkhsh, Dr Murtiza Blooch, Dr Talha Saad, Dr Khalid Idrees and Dr Mohammad Khawar Khan have appealed to the students’ parents to read all the laid down rules and regulations of the PMDC and the UHS before getting their children admitted in private medical colleges. YDA has also appealed to the Punjab chief minister to take action against private medical colleges who were exploiting the public.
