President directs swift provision of relief to flood victims

President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday directed mobilisation of all resources to provide relief to the flood-stricken people across the country. In a meeting held to review the latest flood situation and relief efforts made so far for the victims of current heavy rain in Sindh and other parts of the country, the president directed all available means at the disposal of federal as well as provincial governments be utilised for providing relief to the flood-hit people. The meeting, which was attended by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Secretary General Salman Farooqi, National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) chairperson Nafisa Shah, secretaries of foreign affairs, ead and information division and the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), took stock of the ground situation and deliberated upon the strategy for providing assistance and relief to the affected people.
Briefing reporters, the President’s spokesman Farhatullah said the NDMA chairman briefed the meeting on the latest situation and the measures taken so far for the calamity-hit people, including the provision of basic necessities.
