PPP slams Punjab govt’s dengue policy

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Tuesday deplored the poor arrangements of the Punjab government in controlling the deadly effects of dengue fever owing to which two died in the city. The PPP Lahore Chapter lamented over the spread of dengue that was causing more panic than the floods and widespread rains in the province. The PPP unanimously declared that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led provincial government had failed to tackle the problem and was wasting time and public money in self projection.
The PPP Lahore office bearers said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was concentrating on all the issues except his own responsibilities as chief executive of the province.
The meeting that was convened to pay tributes to the martyrs of September 6, who scarified their lives for the country, decided to stage protests and hold rallies against the Punjab government ‘lacklustre response’ towards the kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer. The PPP Lahore chapter in its meeting held on Tuesday at the party office, criticising the poor governance of the provincial government, demanded former governor Salmaan Taseer’s son earliest recovery and controlling escalating crimes in the city.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of PPP Lahore President and Federal Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki. PPP Lahore Information Secretary Tahir Khalique, regarding the dates of protest, said that they have protested the Taseer’s kidnapping but would stage protest and bring out rallies if the party leadership allowed them. The party demanded immediate removal of Rana Sanaullah from the provincial law minister’s position as his links with defunct terrorist organisations were giving a cover to the anti-state activities of these organisations. In the meeting, PPP Lahore chapter appreciated the initiative of “Rashan Distribution” among the needy through PPP office bearers and termed the step a good omen for the party.
The PPP Lahore also expressed its detachment from the ceremony being arranged at the place of Benazir Bhutto martyrdom on September 9 by the People’s Labour Bureau and announced that no PPP Lahore leader would join the function.
Later, all the party leaders went to the residence of District President Zahid Zulfiqar for condolence over his brother’s death due to dengue fever. The opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz also visited Zahid Zulfiqar’s residence to consol him over his brother’s death. He criticised the Punjab government for poor arrangements to control the epidemic.
