More than 50 lawyers of the Supreme Court Bar Association of India will cross the Wagha border to attend a three-day conference organised by their Pakistani counterparts this week, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir said on Monday.
Asma said that during the two and a half day deliberations, former Indian SCBA presidents were also expected to attend and contribute. The CJP will address the gathering on theme of “People’s Security and the Rule of Law” at the conference starting from September 9. Former president of the Fiji Law Society will discuss his experience of dealing with the legal system during internal conflicts. Speakers from Pakistan on this topic include Talib Rizvi and Hina Jilani.
Babar Sattar, who will initiate the discussion on reforming the criminal justice system, Acting Punjab Prosecutor General Anwar Khan Gondal, Zahid Hussain Bokhari and Ajmad Malik, solicitor-advocate from the UK, will also contribute towards this topic. An important topic, “Justice and Impunity: Its Portrayal by the Media” will be addressed by renowned journalists Talat Hussain, Ayaz Amir and Hamid Mir. Other speakers include Bilal Soofi, Latif Afridi, Habib Tahir, Raza Kazim, Musarrat Hilali, Sharif Hussain Bokhari and Naseeruddin Nayar. The sessions will be chaired by Abid Hassan Minto, Munir A Malik, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Justice (r) Tariq Mahmood.
