Health of students in private schools at stake

A number of schools in the capital particularly those operating in the private sectors are providing unsafe drinking water to students. The Online learnt on Tuesday that the conditions at most of the schools were unhygienic. Health experts believe that consumption of unsafe drinking water at schools could cause damage to student’s health. It is also observed that most of the private schools do not follow standard operating procedure regarding hygienic conditions and washrooms there are unspeakably soiled. The parents are found complaining about the poor hygienic condition at schools and lamenting that the administrations do not care to provide the children with clean drinking water.
It is relevant to mention that all private schools registered with government need a certificate on the hygienic condition every year, which is issued by the authorities after a survey. Residents decry illegal octroi posts: A number of builders in the rural Gangota Syedaan area have set up illegal octroi posts on Japan Road and they are fleecing commuters. The residents have complained that people on these illegal posts are charging Rs 30 for those riding a taxi, Rs 50 for bus and Rs 100 for truck. The residents have demanded the authorities concerned should remove these illegal octroi posts immediately.
Sewerage system out of order: The residents of the Medical College Staff Colony EFBC Block are facing immense problems because of out of order sewerage system of the locality. They complain that they are getting contaminated water for drinking and domestic use because of this problem. Talking to Online on Tuesday, the said they had facing the problem for last seven months but the authorities were not paying any heed. They said some residents had fallen sick because of contaminated water and unhygienic surroundings.
