Surgical, medical instruments exports surge 18.53pc

The export of surgical goods and medical instruments during the first month of the current financial year registered an increase of 18.53 per cent as compared to the same period last year. Surgical goods and medical instruments worth $23.7 million were exported during the month of July 2011 as compared to $20 million in the month of July 2010. According to the data of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the export of surgical and medical instruments was recorded at $24.5 million during the month of June 2011. Meanwhile, the export of cutlery increased by 14.53 per cent as cutlery goods worth $7.2 million were exported during the month of July 2011 as compared to the export of $6.3 million during same period of last year, the data revealed.
The export of electric fans increased by 50.62 per cent as about 246 thousand units costing $5.2 million were exported during the first month of current financial year as against to 161 units worth $3.4 million during the same month of last year. Gems and jewellery export during the month of July 2011 also increased by 6.63 per cent and 213.46 per cent as gems worth $0.20 million and jewellery costing $81.36 million were exported.
