The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Karachi police claimed on Sunday to have arrested a target killer accused of murdering 24 people, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) People’s Unity president Aamir Shah, whereas 14 other suspects have been detained by the law enforcers during targeted search operations as well. Police have also recovered weapons from the possession of the suspects, whereas the detainees have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation. Sources said that the SIU has arrested Shahroz alias Yousuf from Lines Area, and that the accused has admitted to murdering 18 people. Shahroz admitted before the media that after kidnapping five of his victims, he had killed them and dumped their bodies in different parts of the city. He informed the media that the names of three of his victims were Imran, Abid and Kamran. SIU Senior Superintendent of Police Umar Khattab said that the police are making preparations to arrest three of Shahroz’s accomplices. When the SIU raided the accused man’s house, he told them that a body was present at the premises at that time, and the body was recovered from under a large television box. Sources in the SIU said that Shahroz had admitted to murdering eight people so far; however, according to police record, he has been involved in the murder of 24 people. He has also been involved in the murder of PIA People’s Unity president Aamir Shah as well as the murder of several activists of the Awami National Party (ANP). Sources revealed that Shahroz had received training in Africa and had worked with the infamous Agha Adnan group. Shahroz also has close links to a Karachi-based political party, the sources disclosed. The city police have also arrested a target killer having links to a Karachi-based political party from the area of Pak Colony. Police claimed that the arrested man had confessed to his involvement in the murder of two people. The Anti-Violent Crime Cell carried out raids based on intelligence information in different parts of the city and arrested 11 suspects, including two alleged target killers. One of the alleged target killers, Shahid, was arrested from New Karachi’s Sector 11-J, and three Kalashnikovs and 1,000 rounds of ammunition were also recovered from his house.
