MQM is still our ally, says Malik

The resignations of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ministers have not been accepted and they will be welcomed back whenever they intended to rejoin the government, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday. Speaking to reporters, Malik said, “MQM is our ally. We will welcome them whenever they want to rejoin. For us, they are still with us and their resignations have not been accepted.” He said a recent Wikileaks story claiming he had offered the US the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) record was false. He said the US never sought NADRA data from him. He said Zulfiqar Mirza was a good friend and that he would refrain from commenting on Mirza’s statements. Malik said over 40,000 acres of land was under illegal occupation in Karachi and would be recovered by the government. He said landmafia should leave Karachi within a month or face stern action. He said a strategy against the land mafia had been devised and action would begin in four days.
