Interior Minister Rehman Malik paid a young boy in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Rs 25,000 on the occasion of Eidul Fitr for smashing his toy gun.
Malik spent Eid in Karachi and paid surprise visits to various parts of the metropolitan; while in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, he was shocked to see a group of children attacking one another with toy guns.
The interior minister then approached the children and asked them to break their guns; one of the boys threw his gun down and stepped on it, breaking it in two; following that, Malik offered him Rs 25,000 cash as a reward.
While visiting different areas of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, the federal minister met with the locals and informed them about the search operations being carried out across the city by the personnel of the law enforcement agencies.
The residents of the area gathered around the minister and gave him their opinions on the targeted search operations as well as submitted their complaints regarding the misbehaviour of the security forces, especially the personnel of the local police, with them.
“The government will eliminate terrorism from the metropolis and bring the law and order situation under control soon”, Malik assured the residents of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Meeting with the media personnel at the state guest house on the second day of Eid, the interior minister said that the Saudi Arabian government’s policy on anti-extremism should be followed, and that the Pakistani government would pursue a similar policy.
“The Saudi government is taking strict measures to combat extremism. The Pakistani government is studying the policy of the Saudi government against terrorism, and a similar policy will be followed here,” the minister said.
The Pakistani government is fighting terrorism and would continue until the country is ridded of all the terrorist groups and extortionists, he added.
He claimed that over 50 target killers had been arrested from different parts of the metropolis, and that they would be presented before the media soon because the government has decided to expose all the criminal elements involved in activities of terrorism in the city.
Eight suspects have admitted to being involved in targeted killings and the video of their confessional statements would be provided to the media after Eid, he added.
During his stay in the city, Malik also visited the residence of the slain Pakistan People’s Party leader/People’s Unity chairman Aamir Shah and condoled with the family of the deceased; the minister also announced providing jobs to two of Shah’s relatives.
“The deceased was an asset to the party and he has to his credit a long list of sacrifices that he has made for the party. The party will never forget his services,” Malik said.
The minister also met with the members of the business community and responded to their concerns over the poor law and order situation of the metropolis.
